Helen’s story – Fife.
After seeing a story about Circles Network in the Fife Free Press, Helen got in touch.
Leading up to a meeting, Helen explained that as she was her sister’s main carer she would like more information on how a Lasting Power of Attorney would work, as her sister had a number of illnesses, including diabetes.
Helen wanted to put things in place for her sister’s welfare should her health deteriorate in the future. She had little information and didn’t understand how to go about the process.
We met with Helen and her sister to provide an overview of what it meant to be appointed as an attorney. We explained that by working with one of our advocates, Helen would be supported in making appointments with solicitors, from a vetted solicitors list, as well as help during the solicitors’ appointments themselves, if and, when required.
Helen was keen to find out which solicitors would be open to being funded through the legal aid her sister receives. Next, the Circles Network advocate supported the process of obtaining prices from the solicitors, by calling around.
The advocate provided a shortlist of the solicitors that supported legal aid to Helen for review.
Following this process Helen said, “The advocate helped to explained the process in a much easier way that I was able to find myself. We’re thankful for the support. From here, I’m happy to take over and get in touch with the solicitor independently after discussing it all with my sister.”
