Sam’s story – Fife.
Sam came to Circles Network in search of support and information with regards to Lasting Power of Attorney. His mum was in the early stages of Dementia and he was beginning to experience difficulties dealing with her financial affairs. It all started when his mum’s bank had turned him away when he had tried to do some banking for her.
The advocate met with Sam and his mum to explain the process.
Armed with all the information they needed they decided to book a solicitors appointment. The solicitors confirmed that they would be able to conduct a mental capacity assessment to determine Sam’s mums position.
The appointment went well and the solicitors decided they were able to support them because Sam’s mum was able to answer the questions appropriately. The Lasting Power of Attorney document was drawn up and a second appointment was made to sign it.
Sam asked the advocate to attend the appointment with them. At the next appointment, a week later, the solicitor completed another capacity assessment of Sam’s mum and was happy to progress the process.
The document was signed and the solicitor sent it off to be registered.
Sam and his mum thanked the advocate for their support through the process. Sam shared his thoughts on the support he’d received: “Thank you so much, you made that so easy and understandable for us. Your service is great.”
