Argyll and Bute

Circles Advocacy Argyll and Bute deliver a free, independent service by providing information and advocacy via telephone, email or video call, drop-in meetings within community places and home visits where possible to individuals who are unable to access a suitable setting. Advocates work with people to ensure that they understand their rights and are supported to have their needs, choices and wishes heard and respected.

About Us

Statutory advocacy services have been commissioned by Argyll and Bute Council since 1st July 2026. Circles Network supports those, who circumstances determine that they have a legal right to access, a support mechanism to ensure their voices are heard.

Services

Who can access the service?

We support anyone over the age of 16 who lives in Argyll and Bute and is experiencing one or more of the following:

  • A learning disability
  • A mental health issue
  • A diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition
  • Dementia
  • Been considered by the local authority to be a ‘vulnerable adult’

We will give priority to people who are subject to legal interventions, for example, anyone detained in hospital in accordance with the Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection or Adults with Incapacity proceedings. If we cannot support you, we will assist in signposting you to someone who can.

Support

We Help People

An advocate can help people:

We are inclusive in our approach and support people from all backgrounds, those detained under the Mental Health Act, people who are subject to interventions under the Adults with Incapacity Act and the Adult Support and Protection Act, carers, parents, people in refuge and people who are homeless or experiencing issues related to alcohol or drug dependency.
The support we give can cover a range of challenges from small, day-today issues, such as paying bills or making telephone calls, to significant quality of life scenarios – which we believe early intervention could help to avoid.
