Becky’s story – Fife.
Before Becky’s mother lost capacity, Becky had been dealing with her banking matters which had been set up with her mother’s permission before she lost capacity, therefore making it legal.
When the Local Authority began questioning Becky’s mother’s ability to remain at home, they suggested that she would be moved into a care facility.
Becky and her husband had been caring for her mother, with the support of health and social care support workers, for several years. They’d even built a small house connected to their own so her mother would still have her own space.
Becky did not think that moving her mother to a care facility was necessary as they didn’t have any issues, but she feared that without guardianship the Local Authority would be able to remove the support workers and move her mother into care.
The Circles Network advocate arranged a visit with Becky and went through all the information and explained the processes involved.
Feeling equipped, “I’d like to contact a solicitor from the list,” she told the advocate.
The advocate supported Becky throughout the process, first by calling the chosen solicitor on Becky’s behalf and making the appointment and by attending the solicitors appointments with Becky.
With the right support, a guardianship application was made. After the appointment Becky shared “I feel relieved, knowing now, that my mother will not be moved, at least not before the Court make a decision anyway. I want to say thank you for being so kind and making the process and information so much easier to understand.”
