West Sussex Circles Project Angela Butcher - Project Manager E-mail: angela.butcher@circlesnetwork.org.uk Christopher Woolridge - Project Facilitator E-mail: christopher.woolridge@circlesnetwork.org.uk Katie Burnham - Development Worker Elizabeth Munnion - Development Worker Telephone: 01444 236 593 This project is designed to ensure that people with learning difficulties in the county are assisted to become fully included in their communities. Funded by West Sussex County Council, the West Sussex Circles Project is like other Circles Network projects in working with people who are excluded, marginalised and seriously isolated to develop confidence and fulfilling lives, and working towards building inclusive communities. We encourage people to organise events and trips out, bringing people together and giving much needed opportunities for making new friendships. Our main objectives are to… · Develop and facilitate Circles of Support · Facilitate Person Centred Plans · Promote the use of Direct Payments and Individual Budgets · Develop Inclusion The project has been working closely with the West Sussex Direct Payment Scheme and In Control to find flexible ways to enable people to access Direct Payments and Individual Budgets. Passionate champions of Direct Payments and Individual Budgets, we have helped several people access and maximise the independence they bring. We offer both information and gentle encouragement, enabling individuals to see for themselves that Direct Payments and Individual Budgets really can help them reach for a better life in which they have a greater say. Where Direct Payments and Individual Budgets are being received, we provide ongoing help with the practicalities - administrative aspects can be daunting, especially to begin with - and with the challenges of recruiting personal assistants and then managing the employer/employee relationship. The West Sussex Circles Project has also worked closely with allies in West Sussex Health and Social Services, and Impact Advocacy (a crisis advocacy organisation) to name just a few. |
