Welcome to Taking The Reins

Taking the Reins is an Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) programme which is partly funded by BBC Children in Need. EFL is a kind of therapeutic approach where you spend time with the ponies on the ground and develop communication skills, increase confidence and learn how to build and strengthen relationships.
Due to BBC Children in Need funding, you may be eligible for some free sessions if you are 18 or under and are disabled or experience some kind of disadvantage, whether that be social, financial, behavioural or emotional. However, lots of other people also have sessions with the horses, including adults and young people over the age of 18. Organisations like schools, charities and local authority teams introduce individuals and groups of people to our project.
We offer a person centred approach in an inclusive environment and work to find a way to make the sessions work for anyone, fitting their individual needs and goals.
