Surrey Circles Project Angela Butcher - Coordinator, South East E-mail: angela.butcher@circlesnetwork.org.uk Telephone: 01444 236 593 This project is designed to ensure that people with learning difficulties in the county are assisted to become fully included in their communities. Funded by Surrey County Council, the Surrey Circles Project is like other Circles Network projects in working with people who are excluded, marginalised and seriously isolated to develop confidence and fulfilling lives, and working towards building inclusive communities. We encourage people to organise events and trips out, bringing people together and giving much needed opportunities for making new friendships. Our main objectives are to… · Develop and facilitate Circles of Support · Facilitate Person Centred Plans · Promote the use of Direct Payments and Individual Budgets · Develop Inclusion The project aims to support the work which is taking place in Surrey around Person Centred Planning (led by The Surrey Foundation for Person Centred Approaches) by sharing expertise with facilitators and individuals on how to develop Circles of Support. The Surrey Circles Project is also very involved in promoting the importance of advocacy and to make sure that a wide choice of advocate services are available to people. The project has been working together with other services and individuals to develop an advocacy alliance with the aim to make advocacy services work together better and to have a bigger voice in Surrey. The authorities in Surrey recognise the value of advocacy support, and realise it can be offered in different forms to suit the personalities and needs of particular individuals. We are able to offer advocacy through Circles of Support, which allow individuals to gain the skills and confidence to advocate on their own behalf.
