Partners in Policymaking is a leadership programme for disabled people and also
for the parents of disabled children.
Partners in Policymaking was developed in America some 17 years ago, there are
now thousands of partners graduates working to create better lives for
themselves and others. Circles Network has been licensed to run the programme
since 1997 and we have run courses in Bristol, Devon, London and Northern
Ireland.
The programme provides partners with the opportunity to learn from their own
experience, hear from some of the best practitioners and teachers in the UK and
around the world and develop personal skills to work for change. Partners gain
in knowledge and skill to improve the services currently on offer to them and
others.
Partners in Policymaking develops leaders who work 'at grass roots' to achieve
social justice for disabled people, and help others to do the same. Some will go
on to campaign and influence national policy. Creating this ripple effect is
central to what Partners in Policymaking is all about.
We hope to be able to offer this programme again in Northern Ireland in 2007.
