Developments we are working on include:
The development of a set of tools that support an outcome driven approach
and that can measure positive change in individual’s lives.
The accreditation of our training courses through the Open College
Network
The launch of the Academy for
Inspiring
Inclusion in Ireland
Shared Futures: this will be a 5 year project with the objective to develop the
capacity of 100 disabled people and community members which will enable them to
use their lived experience to become agents for change and to build inclusive
communities across N Ireland. The main element of the project will be the
opportunity to participate in and graduate from a Communities in Policymaking
programme. The 8 month empowerment programme is a development of the renowned
Partners in Policymaking programme and will run once a year from years one to
four. By the end of year four up to 100 disabled and disadvantaged people will
have graduated. The project will then support and mentor graduates to identify
specific aspects of change they wish take ownership of and develop as a
community project working towards inclusion. Finally, the project will work
alongside graduates organising a Festival of Inclusion in four locations across
Northern Ireland, showcasing the work completed and providing an opportunity for
people to come together share and have fun regardless of age, disability,
gender, tradition, belief, religion or culture.
Chosen Futures: this will be a two year project which works alongside young people, aged
14-25 and who have eating disorders. The project, which will be unrelated to
food issues, will concentrate on the young peoples dreams for their future and
build self esteem through person centered approaches including the development
of circles of support and person centered plans which facilitate empowerment.
Recognising and utilising the gifts, skills and lived experience of the young
people, the project will develop a toolkit and training programme for
professionals who work in this field. We hope to train some of the young people
to co facilitate this course showing professionals the value of the approach.
The project will also support the young people in the planning and development
of a regional conference to disseminate their findings and to showcase the
toolkit they have developed.
